ŠKVER is a festival of experimental and fringe art happening in the month of June in and around the shipyards of Mali Lošinj, Croatia. Each year, for the last 5 years, more then 30 artists, a couple of guest festivals and collectives from all over the world, participate in the festival coming from the different fringe areas of art and who are experimental in expression. The main accent is placed on a creative process and the idea is to connect artists working in different art disciplines but sharing similar outlooks on art as an experimental and adventurous endeavour. Another important quest of the festival is to build different means of implementing art back into everyday routines and making art accessible to wide variety of social structures. Island is a perfect place for such social experiment, because of it’s managable and reachable social microclimate. ŠKVER festival takes over the shipyards role of building vessels of communication between different artist scenes, artists working in diverse art fields, different generations and countries.
